L.A. Reid to Join Sony Music by Way of Simon Cowell's X-Factor
Last week Island Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid stepped down from his position to take on a judgeship on Simon Cowell's new talent search show and reported American Idol killer X-Factor. There are also reports that rapper Nicki Minaj will also join the new show as a Judge alongside Reid, a move many are calling pre-mature being that the female MC only recently got her music industry cherry popped. Reid was rumored for almost a year to be on his way out from Def Jam after a bitter sweet 7 year run. He is expected to eventually join former Universal Music Group CEO Doug Morris at Sony Music when Morris starts his new job as CEO of that company. Reid is expected to take Barry Weiss's position as Chairman & CEO of the RCA/Jive label group. This would put him back in charge of Laface Records, the label he founded with partner Babyface as well as Jive and RCA and a few others. It will also re-unite him with artists like Usher and Pink as well as give him the chance to put his stamp on artists like Brittany Spears, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown and many others.
