This week seems to be the week of new music apps. Earlier news broke about the launch of Purifier and all that it allows users to do. Now MTV is following right behind that with the launch of its own music app called MTVartists that makes discovering and connecting to music artists easier than ever. Use song ID or lyric search to identify tracks. It is being called a Swiss Army Knife for music fans by a top exec behind the launch.
MTV believes there's a market opportunity for an app that provides music fans with a unified, not a disjointed, experience. Its year-old Artist.MTV artist profile pages are a big reason for this optimism. Searches for songs, lyrics and artists will lead back to these MTV-hosted artist pages with news, music, video and other content. MTV is betting music fans will rather quickly find an artist's content at a single page than at pages scattered around the Internet.
