Oprah Winfrey is expanding her name brand yet again, this time to your taste buds. The former talk show queen/media mogul is about to slice out her piece of the $90 billion tea market by joining forces with coffee giant Starbucks to create and launch her own line of tea called Teavana Oprah Chai tea. During Starbucks' annual meeting in Seattle, CEO Howard Schultz broke the news to the audience by introducing Oprah who walked out on stage to a roar of applause.
"Starbucks is about nurturing the human spirit," said Winfrey to an
admiring Schultz. "That is my goal in life and what my brand has
become." Winfrey said that she's previously received — and turned down —
opportunities to promote everything from cars to cosmetics to clothing.
"None of that felt organic," she said. But, she added, the Starbucks
Teavana brand did.
