Rap/R&B videos continue to be one big commercial for luxury brand products

Many of your favorite rappers & R&B singers have gotten rich from sharing their talents with us, so they have grown accustomed to the finer things in life. But why do they insist on using their music videos as commercials for these finer things? The Rolls Royce Phantom seems to be the dominant product showcased in music videos which the automaker benefits from. It is a status symbol. But what is in it for the artists? A few years ago this question was raised and the response from many of the luxury brands that have become staples in music videos was "We didn't ask them to do it and they don't have to". But yet artists continue to do it. Does putting a Rolls Royce Phantom and having a video model walk around in Gucci this and Gucci that make the video any better? Also are rappers and singers running out of stuff to talk about? Now a days it seems like every other line is plugging a luxury brand. Perhaps the record labels are taking payments from the manufacturers for every mention and/or feature? Here is an article in Newsweek touching on the same subject back in 2002
