STUNNED BY NELSON
When Herman Cain burst onto the scene with his campaign for President, many people embraced him due to the fact that he wasn't a Washington insider and he spoke from his gut. The tea party welcomed him and his star was shining bright putting him ahead in the polls in front of seasoned political players like, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Jon Huntsman, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann. Cain was saying all the right things at the right time and it served as the wind at his back. But Herman Cain didn't expect things to get serious as he climbed in the polls. With front runner status comes deep scrutiny under a huge microscope. The media started to ask serious questions on the economy, foreign policy and national security. During a sit down interview with members of the press Mr. Cain got lost in a question about Libya. The media also started to ask about his wife and why she hasn't been seen on the campaign trail with him, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many of his supporters and rivals. He was on top of the world, even requesting and getting secret service protection.
When asked why he needed Secret Service protection so early in the game, Herman Cain responded by saying, because I am the front runner and some people don't like it. But as fast as he got up to front runner status is as fast as he came back down. Following a run at the top for weeks, accusations by former female employees and acquaintances started to surface throwing his campaign into turmoil. To date a total of 4 women have come forward accusing the former pizza executive of sexual misconduct. Herman Cain refused to talk about the allegations to the media and flubbed the handling of the whole thing on national TV. But the biggest hit to his campaign came just a week ago when another woman came out and said that she's had a consensual 13 yr relationship with Mr. Cain and it only ended right before he got into the race. Mr. Cain has since been trying to convince the media and the American people that these women are in cahoots to derail his Presidential campaign. But that in itself is delusional and wishful thinking. These women came forward because being President also has to do with values and your overall character and to these ladies, Mr. Cain may not fit the bill. For Herman Cain to have entered this race with these potential issues in the closet is not only a bad mark for his political aspirations, but also on his ability to lead and more importantly his judgment. If you are running to be Commander in Chief of the most powerful military on earth, and you couldn't see the road ahead laced with land minds, then you are not fit for the job. If these accusations turn out to be true, which clearly they are, because he's since announced that he is rethinking his campaign, then Herman Cain tried to get one over on the American people. This is the same man who said that if elected he would fight to preserve the sanctity of marriage. All this, while playing a role in damaging the very thing he pledged to protect. It’s only a matter of time until the announcement comes down about him packing it in and doing the walk of shame, which was also done by former Presidential hopeful John Edwards. Perhaps before individuals are allowed to run for office they should be vetted across all areas to avoid creating what has become a joke within the bigger joke that is American politics today.
