We all know the Steve Jobs who stood on stage in his mock turtle neck shirts, blue jeans and grey New Balance sneakers sharing Apple's latest gadgets. But who was the Steve Jobs we didn't see? Well if you read the FBI file on the late Mr. Jobs you may wonder, based on interviews of people who were close to him or claimed to have been, during an extensive background check by the FBI when Jobs was being considered for a roll on the President's export council.
In a March 1991 interview with an agent, one man (whose name has been redacted from the FBI documents) described Jobs as “an individual who was not totally forthright and honest and has a tendency to distort reality in order to achieve his goals.”[TSG]
By comparison, the interview subject spoke of his own “high ethical standards,” while noting that Jobs “will twist the truth in order to achieve whatever goal he has set for himself.” The agent wrote that the man considered Jobs “to be a deceptive person.”
