What is is about celebrities and death?

The phrase “you only live once” carries various meanings for people and serves as a mantra to many. However, for celebrities, this phrase seems to be more of a warning than anything else. Call it “death by default” – meaning, if you are a celebrity, death will find you. A tragic and untimely death and celebrity have been synonymous with one another since entertainment took over American’s consciousness: from Elvis’s bathroom death from an overdose in 1977 to Marilyn Monroe’s scandalous bedside death from a prescription induced suicide in 1962 to Marvin Gaye’s 1984 murder by his father to modern-day tragic figures such as Heath Ledger, Michael Jackson, and Gil Scott-Heron.
