An 80 year old Georgia man who purchased a dutch painting on the cheap some time ago, landed a $190,000 pay day when the painting was auctioned off. Amesbury auctioneer John McInnis says that treasure hunters would be shocked at the valuable items they can find in the oddest places. “We sold a painting for a lady several years ago for over a million dollars that was in her attic in Arlington,” McInnis said.
Before Friday’s auction, appraisers with the popular PBS television program “Antiques Roadshow” said the 16th or 17th century Flemish still life could fetch up to $50,000 with restoration, during an episode filmed in Atlanta expected to air next month, according to McInnis.
