CVS Waging Welcomed War On Smoking, Will Rather Lose $2 Billion a Year in Sales To Save Your Life

Hey! Smoking kills, what more do you need to know? CVS, one of the biggest drug store chains is pulling the plug on all tobacco products effectively eliminating hundreds of locations where smokers can buy their packs. Doing this will cut $2 billion from the company's annual sales, but this is just a drop in the bucket compared to the $123 billion in overall sales they pulled in back in 2012.
“We have about 26,000 pharmacists and nurse practitioners helping patients manage chronic problems like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease, all of which are linked to smoking,” said Larry J. Merlo, chief executive of CVS. “We came to the decision that cigarettes and providing health care just don’t go together in the same setting.”
