George W. Bush, Artist in Chief! Check Out The Former President's Paintings of World Leaders

Former President George W. Bush had to find a way to unwind and get out of Commander in Chief mode after leaving office and two wars behind. Clearing brush and tending to his massive Texas ranch wasn't enough so the President turned to something less physical and more calming. He started to take painting lessons and began putting brush to canvas to share his newly acquired artistic skills. He's been busy ever since painting portraits of everything and everyone from the landscape of his ranch to Russian President Vladimir Putin. His many paintings are now on display at his Presidential library in Texas and people are talking about the President's skills as an artist, but don't call him that. Inspired by British wartime prime minister Winston Churchill who also took up painting when he left office, The former President hopes that world leaders will warm up to the portraits he painted of them.

Someone paid $575k for This Kissing Cops Painting

from Reuters:

Reuters reported that Kissing Coppers, his iconic picture of two kissing “British Bobbies,” sold at Fine Art Auctions Miami on Tuesday for $575,000, at the lower end of its estimate. Last week in London, Banksy’s sculpture Happy Shopper (2009) fetched £506,500 ($831,691) at Phillips’ Contemporary Art Evening Sale, more than twice its low estimate. According to artnet’s price database, this was the third most expensive Banksy work ever sold at auction (the current record is for his 2007 Keep it Spotless painting, which shows a maid pulling up a Damien Hirst-like spot painting like a curtain).

#Oprah Selling off Her #LouisXV Arm #Chairs, #Art and More

Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey is having a sale. She is selling off some furniture ahead of a massive interior-design rehaul of her 23,000-square-foot Santa Barbara estate. Items on sale include LouisXV arm chairs, art, and some fixtures.
Oprah Winfrey announced this week that she will auction off her West Coast home’s contents, with the proceeds going to her leadership academy for girls in South Africa. Intriguingly, Oprah decided to redecorate not after evaluating her true self in one of her magazine’s many tutorials but after an interior designer pricked her insecurities with a harsh yet business-savvy neg: “This house has nothing to do with you.” Winfrey consequently hired the interior designer, Rose Tarlow.

Art Insiders and Followers React to $120 Million Scream Sale

BY ART + TIMES:
So yesterday a shy deep pocketed individual dropped $120 million on "The Scream" an almost 120 year old painting basically paying $1 million for each year the painting has been around. With a major sale like this in the art world, comes many opinions, from art world insiders to art followers and lovers, and yesterday's sale saw an explosion across the social mediasphere. Some even questioning the math on the sale.
Robin Bew, Chief Economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit says of the $120 million: “That’s what massive global liquidity injections do to asset prices!” But it’s not just asset prices. The forward value of businesses are also being overestimated. Rakesh Agrawal ‏ of Venture Beat nailed that: “The Scream sells for 0.119 Instagrams. Pricey on a per-image basis. Few simultaneous uniques.” I’m not sure about the maths there.
Here is the animated version of The Scream by Sebastian Cosor:
