Artist Adam Pendleton Talks Black Dada

BY ART + TIMES:
Upstate New York based artist Adam Pendelton brings his Black Dada paintings to MoMa and signs on with  the powerful Pace gallery. At the age of 28, he's the youngest person to do so since the 1970s
Mr. Pendleton’s Black Dada paintings each contain a partial view, usually a corner, of a starkly rectilinear three dimensional object, accompanied by a single letter or two. The letters, which all derive from the phrase “Black Dada,” something that becomes more apparent when the paintings are arranged in large grids, usually suggest a word—for instance, “D A” or “L C K”—but never spell it out completely. The objects depicted are actually details of the famous cube sculptures by the late minimalist Sol LeWitt.

The Frenchman Once Crowned The World's Best Photographer By Andy Warhol

BY ART + TIMES:
Jean-Paul Goude, graphic designer, video director, photographer, the lover and mind behind Grace Jone's iconic image, chops it up with Vice.com about his work, life, Andy Warhol and what he's been up to.
I know it's easier for writers to focus on what made me famous: namely advertising and the Bicentennial show, but I've always used all my interests—dance, fashion, and magazines—within what I do. I've always had that artist's attitude and I never saw myself doing anything else. But even though the Paris art world was interested, I found that world difficult.

Damien Hirst, Con Man?

BY ART + TIMES:
Damien Hirst, the most controversial and highest paid art man, can juggle multiple tasks. Take for example, while prepping for his first major retrospective in his native Britain, he was also hitting back at curator and critic Julian Spalding, who via his short book "Con Art" called him a conman and urged owners of Hirst's work to sell while they can.
Spalding questioned whether Hirst, known for his shark suspended in formaldehyde, a diamond-encrusted skull, spot paintings and medicine cabinets, was an artist at all and described his works, which fetch millions at auction, as "worthless financially".

Hirst, speaking on Monday to a small group of journalists at the Tate Modern gallery overlooking the river Thames, was clearly used to such jibes and brushed Spalding's criticism aside with a grin.

Panmela Castro, Promoting Women's Rights Through Culture & The Arts

BY ART + TIMES:
Women all over the world have fought and continue to fight for their rights. The right to vote the right to speak up, the right to hold public office etc. On a recent trip to Madison WI, Brazilian artist Panmela Castro brought some new life to Willy Street with a mural at the popular Mother Fool's Coffeehouse which she says symbolizes the women's rights fight.

“This was my first trip to Madison and I really love the city and the lakes,” Castro tells The Madison Times. “I like the people and how they came up and talked to you. They are very friendly.”
Castro was able to paint the mural in about three hours and then stuck around to mingle with the many onlookers who amassed on Willy Street. Vital Voices Global Partnership, an international NGO based in Washington, D.C., partnered with Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Program (LACIS) to bring Castro to Madison for this unique event. Castro is a young multimedia artist from Brazil who uses graffiti and street art to promote social change and awareness. She has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Hutúz Award, the most important Hip Hop award in Latin America. In March 2012, she was honored at the DVF Awards, supported by the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation to honor extraordinary women, in New York City.
