Mary J. Blige Fronts Paper Magazine

A veteran in the game, Mary J. Blige is still in demand and still sells magazines when she is on the cover. Her latest fronting is Paper Magazine and she looks amazing.

Back in1992, Andre Harrell, then CEO of Uptown Records, told me that he had a new female singer from Yonkers who was going to become a superstar. Her cover of Anita Baker's "Caught Up in the Rapture," recorded at a local mall, had landed in his hands and Harrell's intern at the time, a young producer by the name of Sean Combs, had requested to take on this project. I was the newly-appointed associate editor of the newly-launched music magazine VIBE, and Uptown's publicist Lisa Cambridge gushed to me that this young artist's style was "glam meets hip-hop meets rock 'n' roll." And the hair... she promised it would be like nothing I'd ever seen before. So she sent over a cassette tape with "What's the 411?" written in Sharpie across the front. As soon as I pressed play and heard "Real Love," with those textured, beautiful and imperfect vocals, I was turned out. Her sound was both deeply powerful and eerily familiar.

Kelly Rowland: The Breakout

STUNNED BY DRE
She's been known as Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child. Beyonce's adopted sister, the dark skinned one. But for years since the group split, Kelly Rowland has been clawing her way out of that box, but more so, out of the Knowles family shadow and the shadow of their bread and butter, Beyonce. It wasn't easy being managed by the father of one of the world's biggest solo female pop stars. Many craved a Kelly Rowland solo effort and when it did come, it was overshadowed some say deliberately by the Beyonce machine. Kelly's performances at award shows would be topped by a performance by Beyonce and her solo efforts would only get a lite shove instead of a full shove by the same power that pushed her "sister" and fellow former Destiny's Childer Beyonce.

Beyonce '4' Cover Art Release

Beyonce and Columbia Records is testing the waters before the release of her much anticipated album '4' hits stores on June 28 by releasing the cover art. It's simple and sexy and we love it. Columbia put out a press release talking up the album and the meaning behind it all. Wonder if she got the whole concept for the name of the album from Lenny Kravitz?

Embattled Pop Star Chris Brown Plunges into Cesspool of Anger

Chris Brown who has been doing a good job rebuilding his image since he put his hands on then girlfriend Rihanna, reportedly spazzed out after an appearance on a popular morning talk show when the host asked him about the Rihanna incident. Poor Chris just wanted to talk about "Fame" his new CD which has been getting a lot of buzz but the host had other topics she wanted to touch on. Well that apparently didn't go over well with Chris. The singer reportedly went nuts, spewing profanities and threats at producers and even throwing a chair at a window sending shattered glass raining down on pedestrians. Chris then stormed out of the building shirtless looking like a mad man. Luckily for this troubled youngster no one was hurt. However cops do want to talk to him and we're sure the building's management would like to talk to him as well about the broken window.

What's Her Secret? Aretha Franklin Drops Some Pounds, But How Did She Do it?

These days it seems as though First Lady Michelle Obama's message of living a healthier life is getting through to Hollywood as well, at least for some. For the past year or so, friends of the legendary soulstress "The Queen Of Soul" Aretha Franklin, were worried about her health and reportedly urged the singer to get her weight under control. Many blamed her choice of Transportation on her ballooning weight due to the fact that Ms. Franklin doesn't really do planes. She travels across the country via a tricked out bus so she spend a great deal of time lounging.  Well it looks like the singer has finally taken action against her weight and knocked off some pounds.  Has she been hitting the gym and watching what she eats? Or is it a man? It could be all the above. She shocked many when she showed up at the recent Apollo Theater Benefit Concert & Awards Ceremony looking smaller than the Aretha from earlier this year.  See the photo comparison after the jump.

Justin Bieber's BET Award Nomination Causing Many to Scratch Their Heads

Unless you've been living under a rock, there is this 16 year old pint sized Canadian kid by the name of Justin Beiber who's been kicking ass on the charts for months. he is the latest teeny-bop sensation causing your little daughters to faint from a simple glimpse at him. Well the kid is nominated for a"Best new artist" award for the upcoming BET Awards ceremony and this is causing many to ask WTF? Why?  We don't know!! His mentor is Usher, one of the biggest artist on the planet and he does make music that appeals to young black girls. Its not like that corny bubble gummy shit Aaron Carter used to poison the ears of young suburban girls with.

God Has a Twitter and Chris Brown is Talking to Him

You know, sometimes we worry about Chris Brown. Yeah the kid got himself caught up in something that may have ended his career but we want the kid to be OK. We sometimes feel like he is calling out for help and is contemplating doing something bad to himself like suicide which would not be cool at all, even though it would drive sales of his old and new music. His latest call out on twitter to the heavens above is kinda sad and we can almost feel his pain. Oh yeah while tweeting to God, he also tweeted new pix showing off his new inkage.
