The Bronx native and thirty-six-year-old Kerry Washington took television by storm in April 2012 as the leading actress in the ABC hit series, Scandal. Her role as the sexy, smart and scandalous Olivia Pope captured audience everywhere. Kerry was the first African-American female to lead a broadcast-network drama since Teresa Graves in ABC’s 1970s cop drama, “Get Christie Love!” Months later in December 2012, Washington worked side-by-side with Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson and Quentin Tarantino in Django Unchained. As Season 2 of Scandal comes to an end and she prepares for the release of Peeples (Friday, May 10th), Kerry Washington takes 2013 by storm with a new approach: fashion. She graces the cover of Elle magazine's June 2013 issue highlighting her accomplishments thus far and her recently recognized sense of style.
With appearances on the covers of Women's Health, Ebony, Essence, Vibe and more, finally, the well-deserved Kerry Washington lands on the cover of an elite fashion magazine. No longer is she "Hollywood's best kept secret" (Elle, June 2013). Washington is now on the fashion radar. On the cover, she poses in a Marc Jacobs plaid shorts and cropped cardigan, just barely showing her Carine Gilson couture brassiere.
Washington works in-sync with her stylist and "fashion twin separated at birth," Erin Walsh. (The Hollywood Reporter, March 2013) Her fashion-forward 2012-2013 red carpet appearances granted her an entirely new following of fans. From her Giles spring 2013 gown at the Django Unchained London premiere - or her floral J. Mendel gown at the German premiere - to her sleek Miu Miu frock on the Golden Globes red carpet, fashionistas everywhere adore her elegant and youthful style preference. Just as unexpectedly as she grasped television, will she do the same with fashion? It's safe to say, one cover down, a few more to go!
