Is Facebook Purposely Killing Viral Content Sites Like Upworthy.com?

Viral content site Upworthy.com was soaring high in the viral content distribution business. Thanks to many shares on social media networks like twitter and Facebook the site hit a record 90 million in worldwide reach. But then Facebook changed some coding which affected what its users saw in their news stream and then just like that, Upworthy wasn't Up anymore.  Granted the site is still experiencing millions in traffic each month. But with these sudden changes at Facbook one has got to ask, did Facebook do this on purpose because Upworthy was riding their coat tails too much? Or is it all a coincidence? These changes at Facebook seems to be affecting other sites like Upworthy as well.
