Jay Z's Band of Brothers at Roc Nation

Roc Nation Entertainment CEO Jay Z knows all too well what a lack of structure can lead to at a company.  During his years as Co-CEO of the now defunct Rocafella Records, it is said that he was highly frustrated with the free for all culture at the company. He would come back off tour, and head into the office only to be greeted by news that the label hired one of its rappers as a Vice President. This among other things is what drove him to cut all ties with then business partners Damon Dash and Kareem Burke. Jay's vision for the company wasn't shared by the other two men. Today, with Roc Nation, Jay Z's multi-faceted entertainment/media company, he is in full control with no one to answer to but himself. With Roc Nation, there is structure and a firm chain of command. The company's top brass is made up of seasoned music executives and managers. Jay Z has formed his inner circle that help him to run his growing company which has recorded music, music management, sports management, music publishing and digital media divisions. The three men that keep this powerhouse company running smooth are Jay Brown, President/COO, Jason Iley, President Roc Nation Records and Tyran Smith, Executive Vice President. We wanted to shine some light on these inviduals, because they are the men behind the man or beside the man.

Jay Brown is President and co-founder of Roc Nation and he also serves as Rihanna's manager. A former VP of A&R at Rocafella Records, when Jay Z decided to launch his own company he immediately brought in Jay Brown as his partner and right hand man to run the overall day to day. Today Jay Brown sits and watches over a vast entertainment empire with interests in sports, with clients like Victor Cruz, Music with artists like Rihanna and Yung Jeezy and artist management with clients like Kylie Minogue. With all this success, Mr. Brown is still hungry for more which explains his work habits which is 24/7. This hunger for more has helped propelled Roc Nation where it is today. A force within the music industry, who do you think Kanye was talking about when he said he said "Then I went and told Jay Brown

Jason Iley is the music man. He was brought in last summer to run Roc Nation Records as President. In this roll he is the man charged with ensuring that the recorded music division of Roc Nation stays on the charts. We can only imagine the pressure on the former Mercury Records President being that the boss (Jay Z) is also an artist.

Tyran Smith is Roc Nations top A&R man. He is the person charged with sniffing out the next big star for the recording music division. A long time Jay Z friend and loyalist, Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith's roll is a major one. At the end of the day, his job is to make sure the Roc Nation Records roster never dilutes. He is perhaps the most low key member of Jay Z's inner circle. Rarely seen and heard, he stays behind the scenes and is known to be one of the last people to leave the office on a daily basis.
